PROTECT LOUISIANA LIBRARIES - SAVE IMLS!

Ready to contact your Congressional representatives?

Federal funding for libraries is critical to ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their background or income, have access to the resources and services they need to thrive. Louisiana’s libraries are key to fostering literacy, bridging the digital divide, and providing free access to books, technology, and vital community services across the state.

However, President Trump's recent executive order targeting the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) threatens the nearly $3 million in federal funding Louisiana libraries rely on each year. This funding supports essential programs for children, seniors, and underserved communities. Without it, the impact of our libraries—and their ability to serve as hubs of education, culture, and community—would be severely compromised.

Want proof? Here are the grants received by Louisiana institutions from IMLS in just the past five years:

In addition, the Louisiana State Library has benefitted enormously from IMLS grants. which fund everything from the Louisiana Book Festival to continuing education for librarians and access for underserved communities:

However, those funds don't stay in Baton Rouge. IMLS funds projects across the state:

Louisiana’s residents must come together to defend these vital community resources. To that end,  LA-CAC is has started a campaign asking all citizens to contact their representatives and demand that they protect the IMLS funding, which directly benefits our communities. The cuts proposed by the Trump administration would undermine years of progress and hinder our libraries’ ability to fulfill their mission:  supporting the free exchange of ideas and access to education.
